Barcelona are actively searching for a new striker this summer. The Catalan giants have placed Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez at the top of their wishlist.
However, completing that deal will not be easy. Atletico Madrid have no intention of letting the Argentine leave cheaply.
Therefore, Barcelona have started assessing alternative options as they prepare for different outcomes in the transfer market. The club has looked towards the Premier League for solutions.
Several forwards have attracted attention in recent months, but one Manchester United player has now emerged as a serious candidate.
According to CaughtOffside, Barcelona have added Benjamin Sesko to their shortlist if they fail to land Alvarez. The Slovenian striker has impressed since arriving at Old Trafford.
His performances have strengthened his reputation across Europe and naturally attracted interest from clubs searching for a long-term number nine. However, Barcelona face a major obstacle.
Manchester United have no intention of selling Sesko. Intermediaries have already checked on the striker’s availability. United responded immediately and made their position clear.
Michael Carrick views Sesko as a key part of his long-term project at Old Trafford. The club invested heavily to bring him from RB Leipzig and believes he can lead the attack for years to come.
As a result, United now regard the striker as untouchable. Sesko scored 11 goals and provided one assist in 30 appearances last season. He also registered 51 shots, including 34 efforts on target.
Meanwhile, United continue to strengthen around him. The club is looking for another striker this summer, but Carrick wants support for Sesko rather than a replacement.
Rasmus Hojlund has already left, while Joshua Zirkzee’s future remains uncertain. Also, the report claims Sesko is happy at Manchester United and enjoys working under Carrick.
The Solvenian has no plans to push for an exit despite Barcelona’s interest. That leaves Barcelona facing a difficult challenge.
Unless something changes dramatically, Barcelona will need to look elsewhere if they fail to land Alvarez.
