Bayern Munich set to sign Manchester United star

The Bundesliga champions are now facing another difficult decision in the market.

Bayern Munich are still searching for attacking reinforcements after missing out on one of their priority targets earlier this summer. However, the Bundesliga champions are now facing another difficult decision in the market.

The German giants initially believed they were leading the race to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United.

Bayern viewed the England international as the ideal option to strengthen the left side of their attack ahead of the new season.

However, Barcelona moved quickly and secured Gordon in a £70M deal instead. That transfer has now forced Bayern to explore alternative options before the window progresses further.

Meanwhile, several Premier League attackers have emerged on Bayern’s shortlist. Liverpool youngster Rio Ngumoha reportedly sits high on the club’s wishlist after his rapid rise over the past year.

The 17-year-old recently made his England debut against New Zealand and won the Player of the Match award. However, Liverpool have no intention of selling one of their brightest academy stars.

Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli has also attracted serious interest from Bayern. The Brazilian featured 53 times during Arsenal’s title-winning campaign and their run to the Champions League final.

However, Martinelli only completed 90 minutes in nine of those appearances.

Reports have also suggested Arsenal could strengthen the left side of their attack this summer, which may create uncertainty around the Brazilian’s future.

Despite those names attracting attention, Bayern’s search has also led them towards Manchester United.

According to The Sun, Bayern Munich are willing to meet Manchester United’s £34.5M asking price for Marcus Rashford this summer.

However, the biggest issue surrounding a possible transfer is not the fee itself.

Rashford currently earns around £325,000 per week at Old Trafford, and Bayern reportedly remain reluctant to commit to those wages.

The Bundesliga side also reportedly feel the England international would not automatically become a guaranteed starter at the Allianz Arena.

The forward spent last season on loan at Barcelona and contributed 14 goals alongside 14 assists across all competitions.

However, Barcelona decided against activating their £26M buy option at the end of the campaign. That decision reopened uncertainty around Rashford’s future.

The England international turns 29 later this year and remains one of Manchester United’s highest earners.

Therefore, moving him permanently would significantly reduce the club’s wage bill while generating pure profit from an academy graduate.

However, a return to Old Trafford under Michael Carrick cannot be completely ruled out if Bayern fail to progress negotiations.
