Manchester United are desperate to sign a midfielder. They are looking for someone to take control at the middle of the pitch in January.

However, they are looking to make a statement signing in the summer. The Red Devils already have the likes of Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton, and Elliot Anderson in their list.

Now, they have already added a couple of former academy graduates in their list. Transfer News Live already reported that United are looking to bring back James Garner from Everton.

But they also have another midfielder in their list who was sold by Erik ten Hag. The player left the club and revived his career.

According to Calciomercato, Manchester United are already lining up a move for Scott McTominay. His career has taken an unexpected turn since leaving Manchester United.

The midfielder is now enjoying the most productive period of his professional life away from England.

Since moving to Napoli, McTominay has established himself as a key figure. Also, CaughtOffside confirmed that Manchester United are now dreaming of bringing him back.

At Napoli, the midfielder has reached a new level. He has been crowned Serie A Player of the Year.

Under Antonio Conte, McTominay has thrived. Napoli’s stance is clear. They want to keep him. However, the financial condition of the club remains a factor.

The club would only consider negotiations at around £60 million. Napoli are also reluctant to lose him mid-season as they chase another Scudetto.

Manchester United are reportedly regretting letting their academy graduate leave. A return to Old Trafford has become a discussion internally.

The Red Devils are not the only club showing interest. Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, and Newcastle United are also monitoring the situation.

Those close to the deal believe a summer move is more likely than a move in January.
