Manchester City eye shock move for Manchester United midfielder

That has only increased speculation over what will happen next.

Pep Guardiola, Ruben Amorim

Manchester City are eyeing a surprising move that can shake up the transfer market in 2026. Pep Guardiola’s men are still planning for the future as they look to add a new face to their midfield.

Manchester United are also going through the same situation. They have started the current season in the worst possible fashion.

Their midfield has struggled to make an impact, and Ruben Amorim wanted to sign a midfielder. But United failed to sign one this summer.

Also, Manchester City have lost Kevin de Bruyne this season. Bernardo Silva is yet to renew his contract, which ends next summer.

That is why Pep Guardiola is looking to find the right player for his system. And, he has made a Manchester United midfielder a priority signing next summer.

According to TEAMtalk, Manchester City are now considering a move for Kobbie Mainoo. The England international wanted to leave this summer on loan.

That is why interest from other clubs has started to grow. Napoli were linked earlier in the campaign. Also, Newcastle United are monitoring the situation closely ahead of January.

The 20-year-old has struggled for minutes this season. He did not feature in the opening two Premier League matches against Arsenal and Fulham. He was then only used off the bench against Burnley and City.

Guardiola is a big admirer of Mainoo. He reportedly sees him as one of the best young talents in English football and is keen to bring him across the city.

Manchester United remain in a strong position. Mainoo’s deal runs until June 2027, and the club has the option to extend it by a further year.

Reports suggest United value him at around £70 million. Talks over a new contract for Kobbie Mainoo are on hold now. That has only increased speculation over what will happen next.

With so many clubs eyeing a move for Mainoo, it will not be surprising to see him in a different colour next summer.
