Manchester United returned to winning ways on Sunday with a 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Old Trafford. The win was just their second of the Premier League season.
Ruben Amorim’s side were helped by an early red card for Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, who brought down Bryan Mbeumo in the opening stages.
Despite the win, United’s overall form remains a concern. The Red Devils were knocked out of the EFL Cup by League Two side Grimsby Town.
Also, they are without European football this season. So, their focus now turns fully to the Premier League. Next, they will travel to London to face Brentford in the league.
However, Ruben Amorim is also on the lookout for the right reinforcements. With Harry Maguire’s contract expiring next summer, United need to find a replacement.
That is why Manchester United are now targeting a new defender in the January window. According to Il Napolista, the club are preparing a move for Inter Milan defender Federico Dimarco.
The 27-year-old has featured in four Serie A matches this season. Amorim feels Dimarco fits his system wonderfully.
The Portuguese coach is also a big fan of Dimarco. He sees the Italian international as an ideal option for a defensive role in his 3-4-3 formation.
Dimarco is under contract with Inter until the summer of 2027. But the report suggests that January could be the right time for Inter to cash in.
Manchester United’s current options in that position have struggled for consistency. So, Dimarco would bring experience and tactical discipline to a side in need of defensive upgrades.
The Red Devils will be active in January. Ruben Amorim will look to add new faces to stabilise his squad and commit further to his system.
