Former Manchester United captain Harry Maguire is in his last year of contract with the club. The England international is yet to renew his contract at Old Trafford.
The 32-year-old centre-back is already attracting interest from Saudi Pro League clubs. So, Maguire might leave Manchester United next summer for free.
Also, Jonny Evans left the club along with Victor Lindelof for free. Meanwhile, Lisandro Martinez has become a target for Spanish giants Barcelona next summer.
That is why, just like signing a midfielder will be a priority for the Red Devils next summer, signing a centre-back will be a priority in January.
Manchester United don’t want to be behind the 8-ball and lack depth in defence, especially when Ruben Amorim plays three centre-backs in his system.
So, it will not be a surprise to see United making moves for centre-backs in January.
Transfer News Live has already reported that Manchester United could make a move for a LaLiga centre-back in January.
Now, this may not be the only move United could make to sign a centre-back.
According to CaughtOffside, Manchester United are likely to make a move for Sporting CP centre-back Zeno Debast in January.
As per the report, the Red Devils are planning for an initial bid of around €40 million to tempt Sporting. However, this amount is way below the release clause of the player.
Zeno Debast has a long-term contract with Sporting that runs until 2029, and his release clause is in the region of €80 million.
Along with Manchester United, Arsenal, and Aston Villa are also tracking the situation of the 21-year-old.
Transfer News Live reported earlier that Manchester United are planning to make a historic move for a midfielder next summer.
So, unless Ruben Amorim and his team perform extraordinarily and secure the Champions League spot, it is hard to imagine that United will sign a centre-back for €80 million, along with the midfielder for £130 million.
