Manchester United may finally have the opening they were waiting for.
All summer, they have kept tabs on Viktor Gyokeres.
But for weeks, it looked like he was headed elsewhere.
Arsenal had the upper hand, or so it seemed. Now, though, something has changed.
United have already added Matheus Cunha to boost their attacking options.
And they are still pushing for Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.
But they also want a true number nine who can lead the line.
That is where this Swedish striker fits in.
At one point, his move to Arsenal looked like a done deal.
The Gunners had been in talks with Sporting CP for some time.
Gyokeres was said to be open to the switch, and all signs pointed to a quick agreement.
But transfers from the rest of Europe to the Premier League are never that simple.
The situation has taken a turn. Other clubs have started circling.
Juventus are keeping a close eye. So is Fenerbahce, now led by Jose Mourinho.
But the most intriguing twist is happening in Manchester.
The red half of the city may finally have a clear path forward.
The player himself is reportedly frustrated. Viktor Gyokeres wants the move and feels promises were made.
According to The Sun, he has even threatened to never play for his current club again. That is how much he wants to leave.
So what exactly went wrong? As revealed earlier by Transfer News Live, Arsenal and Sporting hit a deadlock after a key meeting.
The issue was a difference in how each side valued the deal.
Arsenal offered €65 million plus €15 million in add-ons.
Sporting, however, want the full €70 million up front. They don’t want add-ons or any other conditions.
That standoff may now hand Manchester United the chance to swoop in.
If they do, this transfer window might end very differently than expected.
