Manchester United hold secret edge over Liverpool in pursuit of Alex Scott

Manchester United may have a unique family connection working in their favour.

Manchester United are expected to continue strengthening their midfield options this summer.

However, competition for several top Premier League targets is already becoming increasingly intense.

The club are prioritising reinforcements in central areas ahead of their return to the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are also actively searching for midfield additions following major changes at Anfield. This has created direct competition between the two rivals in the transfer market.

One player attracting strong interest from both clubs is Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott.

The England international has emerged as one of the Premier League’s brightest young midfielders after another impressive campaign on the south coast.

However, Manchester United may possess one important advantage in the race for his signature.

Scott recently travelled with England’s squad to North America ahead of the World Cup.

Although he sits outside Thomas Tuchel’s official tournament squad, the midfielder joined the group as one of five additional players selected for pre-tournament friendlies.

He remained an unused substitute during England’s 1-0 victory over New Zealand in Tampa. However, the midfielder could still feature in the final warm-up match against Costa Rica.

While his international involvement continues attracting attention, his club future is also becoming a major talking point.

Manchester United and Liverpool are both reportedly monitoring Scott closely ahead of a possible summer battle for the Bournemouth star, who carries a reported £60M valuation.

However, according to the Express, Manchester United may have a unique family connection working in their favour.

Maya Le Tissier is Scott’s step-sister and she already plays for Manchester United after joining the club from Brighton in 2022.

The England international quickly established herself as one of the club’s most important players.

She earned a place in the PFA Women’s Super League Team of the Year during her first season at Old Trafford before winning Manchester United’s Player of the Season award in 2024.

Later that year, Le Tissier was also appointed club captain following Katie Zelem’s departure.

That family link could become an interesting factor if United eventually push forward with formal negotiations for Scott this summer.
