Manchester United are preparing to strengthen Ruben Amorim’s squad in the upcoming January transfer window.

After a mixed start to the season, the Red Devils are prioritising midfield reinforcements, with several names already on their shortlist.

The Red Devils did have a decent summer transfer window. They did change their attacking front three by bringing in the likes of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko.

Also, they did sign a goalkeeper to finally part ways with Andre Onana. However, Ruben Amorim was desperate to add a midfielder.

It’s not that United didn’t try to add a midfielder. Amorim’s main target was Carlos Baleba from Brighton. But the Seagulls were not ready to do a deal for the Cameroonian.

Also, United failed in their pursuit of landing other midfield targets. That is why January will be key for the Red Devils as they are now serious about adding a new midfield general.

According to Football Insider, among the many players being assessed, Borussia Dortmund’s Jobe Bellingham was initially seen as a potential option.

The 20-year-old is the younger brother of Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham. He has made 9 appearances in all competitions this season, but has struggled to become a regular starter.

Jobe wants regular game time to increase his chances of making it to the England World Cup squad. So, this situation has increased the frustration of the Englishman.

There are speculations about a possible exit as well. Yet, Dortmund are not ready to part ways with him. Reports suggest that the Bundesliga side want to give Bellingham time to adapt and develop.

Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim’s attention has turned to other midfield options. Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson has emerged as United’s top target.

United are also keeping tabs on Carlos Baleba of Brighton and could go back to get the summer deal over the line.

Apart from these two, Manchester United could try and sign Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace. However, Real Madrid are ready to make a move for the former Blackburn Rovers midfielder as well.

But now, Amorim is pushing hard for Elliot Anderson. United see him as the ideal addition to improve midfield balance heading into the second half of the campaign.
