Manchester United have made rebuilding their midfield the top priority this summer after missing out on several of their preferred targets.
Michael Carrick’s side has already seen plans disrupted after Tottenham Hotspur secured Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali.
Also, Manchester City completed a record-breaking move for Elliot Anderson.
The Red Devils have already agreed a deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson, although the Brazilian’s arrival remains on hold because of his international commitments.
However, United still want to add another elite midfielder before the transfer window closes.
Attention has now turned toward a long-standing target who has been admired internally for several months.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Manchester United are ready to offer more than £85 million to sign Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni.
The report claims United have already held talks to understand Real Madrid’s position on the France international, whose current contract runs until June 2028.
While the Spanish giants have not given the green light for negotiations, the Premier League club is ready to move if Madrid decide to sanction a sale.
Spanish outlet reports that United are willing to exceed €100 million, which is more than £85 million, in an attempt to complete the signing.
Manchester United always wanted Tchouameni as the ideal replacement for Casemiro because of his quality and mentality.
However, the French midfielder currently earns a salary beyond United’s preferred wage structure.
Also, the club have already made it clear that any potential move would require different financial terms.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid have not yet indicated any willingness to begin formal negotiations. Those factors mean a deal remains complicated for now.
