Manchester United continue to search for midfield reinforcements ahead of the new season. Michael Carrick wants to strengthen the squad after securing Champions League qualification.
The club have already moved for Atalanta midfielder Ederson and remain active in the market.
United also continue to monitor several other midfield targets as they prepare for a demanding campaign.
The return of European football means Carrick needs greater depth and competition throughout his squad.
Meanwhile, Barcelona are facing important decisions regarding their own squad this summer.
The Catalan giants have already shown a willingness to make difficult choices in the transfer market. They moved quickly to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United.
Barcelona also approved the permanent departure of Ansu Fati. In addition, the club decided against activating its option to sign Marcus Rashford permanently.
Those decisions highlight a growing focus on reshaping the squad under Hansi Flick. Another player whose future appears uncertain is Marc Casado.
The midfielder enjoyed a breakthrough during Flick’s first season at the club. However, his position in the squad has weakened considerably over the past campaign.
Several midfield teammates have moved ahead of him in the pecking order. That situation has created speculation surrounding a possible departure.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Manchester United have re-entered the race to sign Casado. The report claims Carrick is interested in bringing the Barcelona midfielder to Old Trafford.
His relationship with super-agent Jorge Mendes could also help facilitate a potential move. Although no official offer has arrived, links between Casado and United have existed for some time.
The report states that United have already made enquiries regarding the player’s situation. Barcelona now face an important decision regarding the midfielder’s future.
If the Barcelona manager, Hansi Flick, does not view Casado as part of his long-term project, a transfer could become increasingly likely.
