Manchester United set sights on Norway midfielder

With Manchester United determined to complete the final piece of their midfield rebuild, the race for that position remains open.

The midfield rebuild of Manchester United will not end with the arrivals of Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos.

Michael Carrick and Jason Wilcox continue to work on adding another midfielder before the transfer window closes.

The situation changed significantly following Casemiro’s departure and Manuel Ugarte’s serious knee injury during the World Cup.

As a result, Manchester United are now prioritising the signing of another holding midfielder. The club have already explored moves for several options across Europe.

Carlos Baleba remains highly admired at Old Trafford, while Manu Kone and Hugo Larsson continue to feature prominently on the club’s shortlist.

However, one Premier League midfielder is now emerging as a serious contender for the role.

According to TEAMtalk, Manchester United are once again discussing Fulham midfielder Sander Berge internally.

The report states that the Norway international has climbed United’s shortlist following his impressive performances for both club and country.

Berge enhanced his reputation during the World Cup after producing a series of commanding displays in the middle of the park for Norway.

Manchester United also value his Premier League experience and physical presence in midfield.

TEAMtalk report that renewed contact has already been made this month as United continue their due diligence.

The report also claims that INEOS believe the midfielder could be signed for less than £40 million.

That valuation makes him one of the most attractive value-for-money options currently available on the market.

With Manchester United determined to complete the final piece of their midfield rebuild, the race for that position remains open.
