Manchester United are continuing to reshape Michael Carrick’s squad after securing their return to the Champions League.
The Red Devils have already strengthened their midfield with Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans. Karl Darlow has also arrived to provide another goalkeeping option.
However, United remain interested in adding defensive reinforcements before the transfer window closes. They have considered several left-footed defenders as Carrick looks to improve his options.
Lewis Hall has emerged as one target, but Newcastle United have made it clear they do not want to sell him. United have also been linked with David Raum, Joaquin Seys and Jorge Salinas.
Another defensive option now appears increasingly unlikely to arrive at Old Trafford.
According to GOAL, Manchester United target Jhon Lucumi has agreed personal terms with Juventus over a five-year contract and wants to join the Serie A giants.
Juventus are now working to reach an agreement with Bologna. The Italian giants reportedly hope to complete the transfer within hours.
United had emerged as contenders for the 28-year-old after reports suggested they were ready to meet Bologna’s €25 million asking price.
However, Lucumi’s preference for Juventus has strengthened the Turin club’s position in the race.
Juventus initially attempted to include players in a potential swap agreement. Bologna rejected that approach, leading them to prepare a different proposal.
They are now ready to offer €20 million as a fixed fee alongside easily achievable add-ons.
Lucumi has attracted significant interest following his impressive World Cup campaign. Nottingham Forest also made an offer, but the Colombian defender rejected their proposal.
Como also failed with an approach, while Chelsea subsequently registered their interest. Inter Milan, Napoli and Bournemouth have also been linked with the defender.
Despite that competition, Lucumi’s decision has put Juventus firmly in control of the race. United must now continue assessing other defensive options before their Premier League campaign begins.
