Manchester United continue working on midfield additions as Michael Carrick prepares for his first full season as permanent manager.
The Red Devils finished third in the Premier League and secured a return to the Champions League. However, the club still plans to strengthen several areas of the squad.
Midfield remains a major focus ahead of the new campaign. United have already completed a deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson.
Even so, club officials continue searching for further reinforcements. Casemiro has already left Old Trafford and United want additional depth for a demanding season.
As a result, several midfielders remain under consideration. According to Sky Sports, Lazio midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has emerged as one of the names on United’s shortlist.
The Nigeria international currently plays in Serie A after joining Lazio in 2024. He initially arrived on loan before completing a permanent move a year later.
Dele-Bashiru also has strong links to English football. The midfielder developed in Manchester City‘s academy before leaving without making a senior appearance.
He later spent three years at Sheffield Wednesday and built valuable first-team experience. Now, the 25-year-old could have an opportunity to return to England.
Reports suggest he remains open to a Premier League move. His current contract with Lazio runs for another two years. The midfielder could be available at around £15.5M.
That figure stands in sharp contrast to some of United’s other targets. Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson remains high on the club’s wishlist.
However, Forest continue demanding a huge fee for the England international. That could make alternative options more appealing. The Red Devils have also made contact with West Ham United to sign Mateus Fernandes.
Earlier this season, Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri highlighted the midfielder’s pace after a strong performance in the Coppa Italia. Sarri revealed that Dele-Bashiru can reach speeds of 36 km/h.
While bigger names continue attracting headlines, the Lazio midfielder could prove to be one of the more sensible options available to Carrick this summer.
