Mason Greenwood’s next club confirmed

Roma close in on Mason Greenwood as Manchester United set to receive £21.5m sell-on fee from Marseille exit.

Some summers just keep delivering good news for a club.

Manchester United have already confirmed the permanent sale of Rasmus Hojlund to Napoli for £38 million.

Their first completed deal of the window.

And now, a second significant windfall is approaching.

One that involves a player who left Old Trafford two years ago.

And whose next move is about to benefit United more than anyone might have expected.

Roma close in on Mason Greenwood as Manchester United set to receive £21.5m sell-on fee from Marseille exit

According to TEAMtalk, Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reports that AS Roma have chosen Mason Greenwood as their top attacking target this summer, with the club set to “push hard” to secure his services after Marseille set an initial asking price of €50 million.

That figure would trigger a 50% sell-on clause that Manchester United included when they sold Greenwood to Marseille in 2024 for £26 million.

The maths is simple.

If AS Roma meet Marseille’s asking price, United will receive around £21.5 million.

Money that arrives on top of the Hojlund sale and heads straight into a summer budget already earmarked for significant midfield investment.

Combined, the two sales would net INEOS approximately £59.5 million.

A substantial injection of funds that changes the scope of what Manchester United can spend this summer.

Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini has personally identified Greenwood as the attacking profile he wants to build his side around next season.

That level of managerial buy-in is rarely insignificant in Italian football.

Suggesting that if a fee can be agreed, the deal will move quickly.

However controversial he is, both player and club are ready for a fresh start.

Roma would give him the Serie A platform and the direct football that suits his style under Gasperini’s high-intensity attacking system.

The only question left is whether Roma move first.

And whether they can get it done before the World Cup changes the market.
