Michael Carrick creates new Marcus Rashford plan

Barcelona could also return with another loan proposal.

Marcus Rashford enjoyed an outstanding loan spell at Barcelona during the 2025-26 campaign. The England international contributed 14 goals and 14 assists as the Catalan club won the La Liga title.

He also impressed at the 2026 World Cup after making several influential appearances from the bench.

However, Rashford’s future remained uncertain after Barcelona decided against activating their permanent option.

The Spanish champions explored another loan deal, but Manchester United rejected that proposal.

Interest has also emerged from Fenerbahce, although the forward reportedly prefers to remain at the highest level of European football.

Meanwhile, Michael Carrick has transformed Manchester United since taking charge in January.

The Red Devils finished third in the Premier League and have carried that momentum into preseason with victories over Rosenborg and Atletico Madrid.

Carrick is now preparing his squad for friendlies against Paris Saint-Germain, Leeds United and AC Milan.

Despite continued speculation over Rashford’s future, Manchester United have now drawn up a fresh internal plan for the forward.

According to TEAMtalk, Carrick and his coaching staff want Marcus Rashford to become a key figure in Manchester United’s first team this season.

The report states that Rashford will return to Carrington this week after loan spells with Aston Villa and Barcelona.

He is also expected to feature against Paris Saint-Germain as Carrick assesses his squad before the new campaign.

TEAMtalk claims Rashford’s wages have not been viewed as a problem by Carrick or his coaching staff.

Instead, they believe the England international still has the quality to make a major impact under the new regime.

The report also states that Rashford’s return could reduce Manchester United’s urgency to sign another versatile attacker before the transfer window closes.

Interest from the Saudi Pro League, Major League Soccer and Fenerbahce remains. However, Rashford has little interest in those destinations.

Barcelona could also return with another loan proposal, but Manchester United are not ready to sanction such a deal.

As things stand, Rashford could remain at Old Trafford and play a significant role under Carrick.
