Manchester United are already preparing for a busy summer transfer window as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of next season.
The club currently sit third in the Premier League, but that has not slowed their ambition. Instead, it has encouraged the hierarchy to push for further improvements across key areas of the team.
According to The Athletic, Manchester United are monitoring several targets, particularly in midfield, as they plan for either a new manager or a permanent role for Michael Carrick.
One of the leading names on their shortlist is Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba. The 22-year-old was a target last summer, but the transfer failed after Brighton demanded a fee above £100 million.
Another major option is Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali. The Italian midfielder is viewed as a more dynamic alternative in the centre of the pitch and could be available for around £80 million.
At the same time, United are tracking multiple English talents. Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton and Alex Scott are all under consideration as the club looks to build around Kobbie Mainoo.
Anderson has impressed at Nottingham Forest and is valued highly, while Wharton and Scott continue to attract attention with their performances this season.
Meanwhile, the club could explore opportunities involving struggling sides.
Mateus Fernandes has stood out despite West Ham’s difficult campaign. Meanwhile, Joao Gomes could become available if Wolves are face relegation.
United are also considering options beyond the Premier League. They are also looking at Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni as a potential high-profile signing.
In defence, there are also plans to strengthen. Injuries and suspensions have exposed a lack of depth, despite the presence of Lisandro Martinez, Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro.
As a result, Tottenham defender Micky Van de Ven has emerged as a target, particularly if the Spurs face relegation.
With multiple positions under review, Manchester United’s summer plans are now taking clear shape.
