Manchester United are reportedly preparing to make a major managerial decision without carrying out another lengthy end-of-season review.
The club’s hierarchy already appear convinced about the direction they want to take after a strong finish to the campaign secured Champions League football.
United still need one more point from their final two matches to guarantee third place in the Premier League, but internally the focus has already shifted towards next season.
According to Fabrizio Romano, senior figures at Old Trafford are now ready to back the current interim boss permanently.
Michael Carrick has emerged as the overwhelming favourite to become Manchester United’s next full-time manager.
Director of football Jason Wilcox and chief executive Omar Berrada will recommend Carrick to co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe during the club’s executive meeting after the season ends.
United reportedly have not held formal talks with outside candidates since appointing Carrick until the end of the campaign back in January.
The club previously carried out a long internal review before deciding to keep Erik ten Hag two years ago following the FA Cup final victory over Manchester City.
This time, however, the process appears far more straightforward. Several senior players have already publicly backed Carrick to remain in charge.
Carrick is also expected to address supporters on the Old Trafford pitch following Sunday’s final home game against Nottingham Forest.
That detail has only intensified speculation that the former midfielder is already preparing for the role on a permanent basis.
United’s leadership reportedly want stability after several difficult years involving constant managerial changes and internal restructuring.
