Manchester United are preparing for a major midfield rebuild after Casemiro officially confirmed his departure from Old Trafford.
The Brazilian will leave the club after United’s final match of the season against Brighton & Hove Albion, bringing an end to his four-year spell in Manchester.
Although his time at United delivered mixed results, Casemiro still departs with one of the strongest reputations of his generation.
Before arriving in England, the midfielder won every major trophy possible with Real Madrid, including five Champions League titles.
Now, as United begin searching for his long-term successor, attention has shifted towards several midfielders currently linked with a move to Old Trafford.
Interestingly, Casemiro may have already publicly endorsed the exact profiles the club admire today.
When the midfielder left Real Madrid in 2022, he openly praised the next generation expected to take over at the Santiago Bernabeu.
That trio included Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni. All three players are now being linked with Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer window.
Casemiro particularly praised Valverde’s ability to eventually become one of the best holding midfielders in football. The Brazilian previously said (via Manchester Evening News):
“Fede can do this job. He’s a player with 10 or 12 years ahead of him.”
Valverde’s future reportedly became uncertain after a recent training-ground clash with teammate Tchouameni.
Some figures inside Real Madrid are believed to be unhappy with the Uruguayan midfielder following the incident.
Meanwhile, Camavinga also faces uncertainty after slipping down the pecking order in recent months.
The French midfielder missed out on France’s World Cup squad, while reports suggest Madrid could consider offers this summer.
Tchouameni remains another strong option for United. Casemiro also praised both French midfielders while discussing Madrid’s future after his exit. The Brazilian said:
“Camavinga showed us last year that he can be a fantastic player. Tchouameni is a player who is well-known at this club.”
Now, with Manchester United actively searching for a new midfield leader, the club could revisit the exact names Casemiro himself once identified as elite successors at Real Madrid.
