Ruben Amorim wanted to sign a midfielder last summer. However, Manchester United failed to bring in a midfielder.

The Portuguese boss wanted to sign Carlos Baleba from Brighton and Hove Albion. They were even ready to meet the £100 million valuation of the Seagulls.

However, Brighton was not ready to part ways with the Cameroonian. Also, Manchester United failed to sign players quickly.

That is why they had a limited time to pursue a deal for a midfielder after signing Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko.

As a result, they couldn’t allow Kobbie Mainoo to leave even though the academy graduate wanted to join Napoli towards the end of the transfer window.

The situation hasn’t changed with Mainoo because of the lack of game time. In this way, he will never make the England squad for the upcoming World Cup in 2026.

That is why the English midfielder would like to leave the club in January. So, Manchester United are looking to add a midfielder to facilitate the exit of Mainoo.

Transfer News Live has reported that the Red Devils are eyeing a move for the Sporting CP captain, Morten Hjulmand. He was part of the successful Sporting team under Ruben Amorim.

However, there are other midfielders that Manchester United would like to pursue in January. The names of Eduardo Camavinga and Adama Wharton are circling around Old Trafford.

Also, there was another name that was getting mentioned in relation to Manchester United. Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jobe Bellingham wants to leave the German club.

His situation is quite similar to that of Kobbie Mainoo. The brother of Jude Bellingham followed in his footsteps by joining Dortmund this summer.

However, Jobe’s fate is turning out differently from his brother’s. That is why Manchester United are eyeing a move for him.

Crystal Palace were also interested in the move as a replacement for Adam Wharton in case the former Blackburn Rovers midfielder decided to leave amid interest from Real Madrid and United.

But now, Manchester United and Crystal Palace have dealt a blow in their pursuit of Jobe Bellingham.

As per the latest report, Borussia Dortmund will not allow Jobe Bellingham to leave in January. So, the Red Devils will now have to focus on their other targets.
