Last season, Manchester United failed to qualify for European football. They did play the final of the Europa League last year but lost to Tottenham Hotspur.
The 2023/24 season was the last time Manchester United played in the Champions League. However, they were knocked out in the group stage.
This season, the primary target for Ruben Amorim has to be qualifying for the Champions League. However, the season has started disappointingly for the Red Devils.
After 7 games, they are in 10th position in the Premier League table.
However, the Red Devils are just 4 points behind Bournemouth and Tottenham, who are occupying the 3rd and 4th with 14 points each.
Manchester United will take on Liverpool at Anfield when the Premier League resumes after the international break.
Ruben Amorim is yet to win a back-to-back Premier League game. A loss in that game will create more pressure on Amorim.
However, it is true that the Red Devils failed to sign a midfielder. They were targeting Carlos Baleba and were ready to pay the money Brighton wanted.
But the Seagulls chose not to do the deal as they wanted to keep the Cameroonian for another season.
That is why Manchester United are looking at other targets now. And, one of their main target has the dream of playing in the Champions League, according to his club’s chairman.
The Red Devils will be eyeing a move for Adam Wharton in the coming months. Real Madrid are also looking to sign Wharton. Meanwhile, Steve Parish, the chairman of Crystal Palace, told talkSPORT:
“I think Adam at some point will want to play either in the Champions League with us, if we can make that happen, or probably with another club.
“He’s an extraordinary talent. I think right now, and I can’t speak for Adam, but I think he’s focused on his time at Crystal Palace.”
It looks like Parish knows that Wharton will leave, and he is open to it. Now, Manchester United has to be proactive and sign him. Otherwise, Real Madrid might snatch the talented midfielder.
But before signing Adam Wharton, Manchester United might have to qualify for the Champions League this season. It will be a tough task for Ruben Amorim.
