Manchester United are looking to find a midfielder in January. Without Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes, their midfield looks very weak.
Also, Ruben Amorim is struggling to trust someone like Kobbie Mainoo. That is why the Red Devils will be scanning the market to find a suitable fit for them.
The likes of Carlos Baleba, Elliot Anderson, and Adam Wharton will be difficult to sign in January.
That is why they are showing interest in a young midfielder who is currently impressing in the Netherlands.
According to The Athletic, Manchester United are showing concrete interest in Kees Smit from AZ Alkmaar. The Dutch club want around €60 million for their wonderkid.
However, United are not the only club in this race. Newcastle United are also monitoring the situation.
Apart from the Premier League clubs, three European heavyweights are tracking Smit as well.
Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Borussia Dortmund have all added the player to their shortlist.
The 19-year-old has made 27 appearances this season. He has scored twice and provided five assists.
He also impressed at the Under-19 European Championship, scoring four goals as the Netherlands reached the final.
United are also exploring other options. James Garner and Scott McTominay have both been linked with returns. The likes of Conor Gallagher and Ruben Neves are also in their radar.
But Smit remains one for the future. There is no doubt Manchester United will be making moves to strengthen their midfield department in January.
