Manchester United have stepped up their search for another midfielder by making an enquiry for Aurelien Tchouameni.
The Red Devils have already strengthened Michael Carrick’s midfield significantly during the summer transfer window.
Youri Tielemans arrived from Aston Villa for £35M, while United also completed a £50M deal for Andrey Santos from Chelsea.
However, Casemiro’s departure has left the club considering another major addition before the new season begins.
Tchouameni has now emerged as an ambitious target despite uncertainty surrounding his long-term future at Real Madrid.
According to Samuel Luckhurst, Manchester United have enquired about the France international and are not discouraged by reports of a new contract agreement.
The 26-year-old is reportedly set to extend his Real Madrid deal until 2031.
However, the Spanish giants have not formally announced that agreement, leaving United willing to test his availability.
Tchouameni remained an important part of Real Madrid’s midfield during the 2025–26 campaign. He made 33 La Liga appearances and also featured 13 times in the UEFA Champions League.
Moreover, he represented France at the 2026 World Cup before an adductor injury disrupted his tournament during the knockout stages.
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho had planned to keep Tchouameni as a key part of his squad.
However, the situation could become more complicated because of the club’s increasing interest in Manchester City midfielder Rodri.
Luckhurst reports that links between Real Madrid and Rodri have intensified since Spain won the World Cup.
Meanwhile, Manchester United remain determined to strengthen further after securing Champions League qualification with a third-place Premier League finish.
For now, their interest remains at the enquiry stage, and Real Madrid still view Tchouameni as an important player.
