Manchester United remain hopeful of signing Arsenal star

Manchester United have not abandoned their interest.

Manchester United remain active in the transfer market after suffering a difficult start to the new Premier League season.

Michael Carrick’s side lost 2-0 against newly promoted Hull City despite controlling 72% of the possession.

United also struggled defensively during preseason, ending their preparations with a 4-2 defeat against AC Milan.

The club has responded by spending heavily on midfield reinforcements during the summer transfer window.

United signed Andrey Santos from Chelsea for £48 million and Youri Tielemans for £35 million.

They have also agreed a £70 million deal with Brighton for Carlos Baleba as Carrick rebuilds his midfield.

However, the club has now turned its attention towards strengthening the left side of the defence.

Luke Shaw has entered the final year of his Manchester United contract, which does not include an extension option.

United initially made Newcastle defender Lewis Hall their leading target, but Newcastle have moved to discourage a transfer.

As a result, Carrick’s recruitment team has explored several alternatives before the September 1 deadline.

According to The Sun, Manchester United remain hopeful that Arsenal can be persuaded to sell Myles Lewis-Skelly this summer.

The 19-year-old has attracted interest from both United and Chelsea despite starting Arsenal’s opening two matches this season.

Lewis-Skelly featured in Arsenal’s Community Shield victory over Manchester City and their Premier League win against Coventry.

Arsenal value their academy graduate at more than £50 million, while United currently believe that price is too high.

Mikel Arteta also remains confident that Lewis-Skelly will stay because interested clubs may struggle to meet Arsenal’s valuation.

United still want another left-back before the deadline and could also sell 19-year-old Harry Amass this summer.

Patrick Dorgu can cover the position, while Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui have also played on the left.

Therefore, Manchester United have not abandoned their interest in Lewis-Skelly despite Arsenal’s firm valuation.
