Manchester United could face a difficult task if they decide to pursue two West Ham United stars this summer.
The Hammers may have suffered relegation to the Championship, but they are not preparing to sell their top players at discounted prices.
Relegation often leaves clubs vulnerable during the transfer window. Rival teams usually look to take advantage of the situation and secure talented players for reduced fees.
However, West Ham do not intend to follow that pattern. Club insiders insist they are in no rush to enter negotiations, despite growing interest in several members of their squad.
The London club recognise that keeping some of their best players could prove difficult.
Nevertheless, they are ready to remain patient and wait until after the World Cup before discussing potential transfers.
That stance comes despite wage reduction clauses being activated following relegation. Even so, West Ham believe they remain in a strong position ahead of the summer market.
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are interested in both Crysencio Summerville and Mateus Fernandes, but West Ham have already made their valuation clear.
Summerville has attracted significant attention in recent months. The Dutch attacker boosted his profile again on Sunday. He scored during a thrilling 2-2 draw with Japan in Dallas at the World Cup.
As a result, several clubs are now monitoring his situation. Paris Saint-Germain are among those hoping to take advantage of West Ham’s predicament and secure an agreement.
However, West Ham have no intention of accepting a cut-price offer. It would take a fee in the region of £45 million before they would consider opening negotiations for Summerville.
The same approach applies to Fernandes. The Portuguese midfielder will also attract major interest during the transfer window. West Ham value Fernandes at around £80 million.
Manchester United are also considering alternatives. Reports suggest Iliman Ndiaye and Morgan Rogers remain under consideration as the club evaluates its options ahead of the transfer window.
